This unit will provide a theoretical and philosophical basis for learner centred approaches to facilitating learning in simulated and real health workplace settings. Students will explore selected models and theories of learning as they apply to the dynamic clinical learning environments inherent within health and education sectors. The students will examine the characteristics of diverse groups of learners.

Teaching Organisation 120 hours of focused learning.
In this unit students will apply knowledge gained from the unit Introduction to Learning Models and Theories to clinical learning contexts. They will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills to facilitate clinical learning of individuals and small groups. Selected models of clinical supervision and clinical reasoning will be examined in relation to simulated and real health workplace settings as they apply to the student’s respective health discipline.
HLSC503 Introduction to Assessment and Evaluation in Clinical Education

Teaching Organisation 120 hours of focused learning.
This unit will provide students with the knowledge and skills to plan, implement and evaluate selected assessment and evaluation strategies as they apply to clinical education and workplace learning. The theoretical basis of selected assessment and evaluation approaches will be reviewed to differentiate the purposes and outcomes of assessment and evaluation processes. The impact of the learning context on assessment of clinical learning will be explored to inform strategies to promote valid and reliable assessment practices.
HLSC504 Clinical Consultation and Negotiation

Fostering positive inter-relationships between the learner, the educator and the learning environment requires consultation and negotiation skills. This unit will enable students to enhance these skills to overcome challenges in facilitating learning in dynamic health workplace settings and optimise learning outcomes. Interpersonal skills in the role of the clinical educator will be addressed, such as: giving and receiving feedback, establishing learning contracts, maintaining professional boundaries and clinical liaison.
HUMA105 Australian Leisure and Lifestyle

This unit is designed to develop a knowledge and awareness of the nature and significance of leisure as an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. Aspects of personal development, self-concept and stress management are investigated. Attitudes to work and leisure are addressed, together with work changes which affect leisure in Australia. The unit also clarifies conceptual relationships between leisure, recreation, play, games and sport.
HUMA106 Nutrition and Exercise Issues

This unit seeks to identify and study personal health issues, particularly those concerned with nutrition and exercise. Relationships between food and energy are investigated. Aspects of wellness, lifestyle and exercise are studied. The focus is to provide a valid knowledge base from which to access and interpret the array of information currently available in these areas, particularly concerning restrictive diets and commercial exercise programs and apparatus.
HUMA110 Professional Development: Special Study

This unit allows students to enrol in undergraduate level study for purposes of professional development reflecting the needs of a particular group or organisation and will generally have a focus on the mission and institutional identity of the group or organisation. It is intended to allow, at undergraduate level, a unit of professional development designed to meet a specific purpose and is normally undertaken by flexible delivery as non-award study.

The attitudes and values of workers who assist people with a disability or who are older, and how these attitudes and values affect the types of support people receive. Particular focus is placed on the following areas of lifestyle facilitation:
- assisting a person in decision–making;
- assisting a person to develop a sexual identity;
- understanding people’s behaviour in light of their lifestyle needs.

Examines appropriate ways people can be assisted with their lifestyle. There are two areas of focus. Firstly, types of service and service providers for people with a disability and for older people will be identified and analysed using current philosophies in Human Services. Secondly, the role of friendship facilitators assisting people with a disability and people who are older will be investigated. Friendships are mysterious and very important. Some people may require assistance to establish and/or maintain relationships. This unit incorporates a workplace project assisting an older person or a person with a disability.
HUMA213 Living in a Residential Facility

There are a range of options for the older people to live in residential environments according to their levels of care needs: these include retirement villages, independent living units, and aged care facilities which offer high and low care accommodation. The aged care facilities are mostly government-funded but there are also some private agencies that are independent of government funding.
This unit examines the issues and concerns that the older person and the family have to deal with in making the initial decision about a residence. It will provide students with a knowledge of the legislation that affects the structures and practices of residential service delivery. Students will also have opportunities to appreciate the importance of human values such as dignity, respect, individuality and opportunities for making choices and decisions when living in a community environment. All of these impact on self-worth and quality of life.

With the increasing complexity of contemporary society, problems such as stress, alienation and lack of autonomy are becoming more prominent issues of health and lifestyle. Traditionally, primary use of the outdoor environment was for recreational purposes with services and facilities orientated towards this end. Current political and commercial interests generally still maintain this view. However, there is growing interest and attention being given to the use of outdoor environments for other purposes, such as personal development, stress management, leadership training, and issues of health and lifestyle. This unit addresses these concepts and issues by investigating the nature and significance of the outdoor environment for recreation, education and general health concerns.

Levels of physical fitness are detrimentally affected by sedentary lifestyles and inadequate exercise habits. Recognition of the role of active leisure and recreation activities as part of a healthy lifestyle has placed increased importance on physical fitness. This unit addresses the components of physical fitness required to maintain healthy involvement in active leisure and recreation pursuits. It is designed to develop the understanding required to critically evaluate physical fitness programs. Risk factors and safety measures concerned with physical fitness training are also studied.
