SCHOLARSHIPS FOR COMMENCING STUDENTS
BALLARAT CAMPUS
George Alexander Foundation Scholarships (IES)
Established through the support of the George Alexander Foundation. George Alexander had a special interest in the areas of education, the environment and conservation and these scholarships reflect his interest in helping talented young people, particularly those from rural and regional communities, who have demonstrated academic ability, to overcome financial disadvantage and achieve their educational goals. Its availability is limited to students who are required to re-locate to study at ACU National’s Ballarat campus.
Sister Assumption Neary Scholarship (IES)
Established to celebrate the contribution of Sister Assumption Neary who, in various roles, has provided health care in the Ballarat community since 1959. It is open to students commencing the Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University’s Ballarat campus, who can demonstrate special need or disadvantage.
Value: $1,500

BRISBANE CAMPUS
Catherine McAuley Scholarship (IES)
Established as a result of a generous donation from the Sisters of Mercy, Brisbane Congregation, to further the mission of their founder Catherine McAuley. The scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are socially and economically disadvantaged, indigenous, or from rural and regional areas.
Value: $2,500 per annum for the length of the course
Elizabeth Ann McCall Scholarship
Established in 2006 by her family to celebrate the life of Elizabeth Ann McCall who died tragically in 2006, aged 41. Elizabeth McCall (nee O’Connor) graduated with a Diploma of Teaching from McAuley College in 1984 and the scholarship is available to students for their first year of study in the Bachelor of Education at Brisbane campus who demonstrate an interest and involvement in social justice issues.

Gleeson Family Scholarship (IES)
Established in 2006 by the Family of Mr John (Jack) Gleeson AM, whose work in industry and telecommunications improved the lives of thousands of people, particularly those living in isolated and rural areas. This scholarship for study at the University’s Brisbane campus was established to support undergraduate students in business, education, health, social welfare or similar disciplines, who might not otherwise be able to access tertiary education. Preference will be given to students who are socially and economically disadvantaged and those from rural and regional Queensland, particularly from the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.
Value: $4,000 per annum for the length of the course
CANBERRA CAMPUS
Francis Carroll Scholarship (IES)
Established by public appeal in 2006 to honour Father Francis Carroll’s contribution to the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn on the occasion of his retirement as Archbishop. The scholarship is designed to assist students from rural and regional areas within the Archdiocese of Canberra/Goulburn and Wagga Wagga in their first year at ACU National Canberra.
Value: $2,500
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ENROLLED STUDENTS
ACU National Foundation – Social Work Rural Placement Scholarship
Established in 2006 to provide financial support towards the costs of undertaking a rural placement for Social Work students at the Canberra Campus. Available for first or second year placements.
Value: Up to $1,100

Ballarat Diocesan Schools Board Scholarships
Awarded annually by the Bishop of the Diocese of Ballarat and sponsored by the Ballarat Diocesan Schools Board. These scholarships seek to encourage excellence in Education and in Religious Education. They are open to students in the Bachelor of Education course who come from the Diocese of Ballarat.
Value: $1,000 by 12

Council of Catholic School Parents (NSW) Scholarship
The Council of Catholic School Parents (NSW) has a continuing interest in the role, needs, and challenges facing parents in the Catholic education system, particularly in New South Wales. The Council has established an annual scholarship to encourage study in this area. The scholarship is available to a final year undergraduate student enrolled in the School of Education who is a resident of New South Wales and who can demonstrate an interest in the role of parents in the Catholic education system, as well as academic merit and community service.
Value: $1,000 and a Certificate

Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club Scholarship
Donated by Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club Ltd as an initiative of the University Foundation. This scholarship is awarded to encourage academic excellence in the undergraduate programs at the University’s Strathfield campus.
Value: Up to $4,000
Dr Henry Backhaus Scholarship
Sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst (Bendigo). The scholarship honours the memory of Dr Henry Backhaus, the first priest appointed to the Victorian goldfields. It is open to undergraduate students from the Diocese of Sandhurst enrolled at the Ballarat campus as a reward for excellence based on faith commitment, academic endeavour, clinical practice/field experience, and community engagement.

James Carroll Scholarships (IES)
Sponsored by the Catholic Education Office, Sydney, in memory of Archbishop James Patrick Carroll who was influential in the development of an equitable system of schools in Australia. These scholarships are awarded to four students in the second year of their teacher education programs. The scholarships are to be allocated on the basis of excellence, demonstrated commitment to the ideals of Catholic education, and equity with attention to students most in need.

John F Slowey Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Australian Catholic University Foundation to commemorate the life of Monsignor John F Slowey whose leadership and vision contributed to the survival and development of Catholic education in New South Wales. Available to two undergraduate students of the School of Education in New South Wales (Strathfield campus) based on a balanced combination of academic merit and community service.
Value: Two scholarships of $2,000 each

Michael Myers Scholarship
The scholarship is designed to assist students who are living in rural or regional Victoria and who are undertaking Theology courses through the University’s Ballarat campus.

Nicol Alexander Scholarship
Established in 2004 by the Alexander family in memory of their daughter and sister, Nicol who died shortly after completing her Bachelor of Arts degree. Nicol’s love and passion for textiles and design enabled her to express some of her life’s experiences and personality through her work. The scholarship is open to students enrolled in Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts (Technology) at Strathfield campus who express their creativity and personality through the textiles component of that degree, and who have demonstrated a commitment to the community life of the University.

Richard Charles Carroll Scholarship
The Richard Charles Carroll Scholarship has been established as a tangible memorial to Richard Carroll, son of one of the founding members of the University Senate, who died in an accident at Luna Park in 1979, aged 13 years.
The recipient must be enrolled in the penultimate year of study in the Exercise Science program at ACU National and able to demonstrate a commitment to the ethos of ACU National through community service.

Rotary Club of Ballarat South Dr John Griffiths Nursing Scholarships
Donated by the Rotary Club of Ballarat South to encourage excellence in nursing in the Ballarat region. There are two scholarships for students entering second year and two scholarships for students entering third year of the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Arts course, based on previous year’s results and community involvement.
Value: $400 each

Siloam Korean Presbyterian Church Scholarships
Sponsored by the Siloam Korean Presbyterian Church. The scholarships are awarded to two students who have displayed a commitment to community service and social justice and who are studying at the University’s Strathfield campus.

Sister Cecily Dunne Scholarship
This scholarship honours the work of Sister Cecily Dunne who was the principal nurse educator of the School of Nursing, St John of God Hospital, Ballarat, from 1971 until it closed in 1990. Awarded annually to a third year Bachelor of Nursing student enrolled at Ballarat, based on excellence in nursing practice and academic results.
Value: $1,000 plus a guaranteed interview for a position in the graduate nurse program at St John of God Health Care, Ballarat

Society of St Vincent de Paul Indigenous Student Scholarships (IES)
Sponsored by the Broken Bay Diocesan Council of The Society of St Vincent de Paul. Up to three scholarships are open to Indigenous students enrolled in undergraduate degree courses at the North Sydney or Strathfield campuses of the University. The scholarships are offered to Indigenous students enrolled in either the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Indigenous Studies) or the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts (Indigenous Studies) courses at the Strathfield campus and the Bachelor of Nursing course at the North Sydney campus.
Value: Maximum of $2,000 per course year

Society of St Vincent de Paul Indigenous Scholarships (IES)
Sponsored by the Canberra and Goulburn Archdiocesan Council of St Vincent de Paul Society; with up to three scholarships offered for Indigenous students enrolled in any undergraduate degree course at the Canberra campus.
Each scholarship will be made available following the student’s enrolment for the second or third year of the course.
Value: Maximum of $2,000 per course year

St Patrick’s Cathedral Choral Scholarships
Up to fourteen Choral Scholarships, funded by the Archdiocese of Melbourne and the University, are available to students enrolled at ACU National in an undergraduate or postgraduate course at the University’s Melbourne campus.
Recipients are required to participate in the liturgical music program of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne, as members of the St Patrick’s Cathedral Choir or the Melbourne Cathedral Singers or both.
Value: $2,500 per annum (Cathedral Choir)

Technical and Applied Science (TAS) Scholarships
Sponsored by the Catholic Education Offices of Parramatta and Sydney, and the Catholic Schools Office, Broken Bay. The scholarships are open to students currently in the third year of the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts (Technology) course at the University’s Strathfield campus Scholarship recipients must be willing to accept a teaching position in the school within the diocese of the sponsoring organisation at the completion of their training.
