University Research Degrees
ACU NATIONAL FUNDED RESEARCH HIGHER DEGREE
ACU National funds Research Higher Degree students for the maximum regulation term of study. After this time has lapsed, candidates who have not completed their research degrees will be required to pay tuition fees, as set by the University Research and Research Training Management Committee (URRTMC). note: funding does not refer to coursework components of the combined Master of Psychology/Doctor of Philosophy degree. Students must pay Library fees. Some students may be eligible for RTS places. Continuation of Candidature is dependent upon the candidate adhering to Research Higher Degree Regulations and maintaining satisfactory academic progress. This is monitored twice annually with the completion of a mandatory Academic Progress Report whereby the candidate and Principal/Co-Supervisors agree on the student's progress.
Postgraduate Research Scholarships for Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents
Applications are welcomed for the following awards:
(a) ACU National Postgraduate Awards (ACUPA) with stipend. This is an ACU National Award based on competitive academic results from an Australian university or equivalent qualification from a recognised overseas university.
(b) Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) with stipend. This is a Commonwealth Government Award based on competitive academic results. APA applications must hold First Class Honours (H1) or equivalent to apply from an Australian university or from a recognised overseas university.
Postgraduate Research Scholarships for International Students
Applications are welcomed from international students for the following postgraduate award:
(a) Endeavour Scholarships are awarded for research study and cover the full tuition costs only. The awards are normally for three years. Applications are open to citizens of all overseas countries (except

Candidates apply for a Scholarship on the standard Candidature Application form.
Applications for an APA with stipend must be Australian citizens or have permanent resident status and must have lived in
Deadlines
Applications close on 31 October. Decisions regarding Postgraduate Research Scholarships are normally made at the end of each calendar year. Late or incomplete applications cannot be accepted.

Fees
Australian and
International students who are not awarded an Endeavour Scholarship pay full international tuition fees.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Candidates are admitted to undertake one of these research degrees in a field of study which has been broadly identified in the University’s Research Management Strategy as an area of strength:
- Early Christian Literature;
- Education Leadership;
- Health Care: Exercise Science, Midwifery, Nursing and Palliative Care;
- Lifelong Learning;
- Mathematics Education;
- Religion Studies and Religious Education;
- Social Sciences, especially Social Work and Youth Studies;
- Teaching and Learning;

Candidates may also be accepted in other fields where there exists a demonstrated capacity for research supervision.
Research degree students are accepted and enrolled in a Faculty of the University and may also be associated with the University’s Institute for the Advancement of Research or a Research Centre.
