EBFX100 to EBMU100

 

EBFX100 Field Experience 1                                                                                                                10 cp

 

This unit will introduce beginning teacher by emphasising professional interaction, familiarisation and guided observation. The unit offers opportunities to develop an awareness of the needs of learners and to promote an image of the student as teacher. Through observation and discussion the student is able to understand and develop elementary teaching and management skills and to undertake some introductory activities.

 

EBFX200 Field Experience 2                                                                                                                10 cp

 

This unit will develop and extend basic teaching and learning skills. The unit will assist students to identify learning styles and apply strategies to cater for various learning styles and contexts. The unit offers opportunities to develop teaching and management skills; to plan, prepare and implement lessons geared to curriculum area studies; to develop a variety of interpersonal skills; to identify appropriate assessment techniques and to reflect critically on experiences.

 

EBFX300 Field Experience 3                                                                                                                10 cp

 

This unit will refine and enhance teaching and learning approaches directed at meeting individual learning needs. The unit will offer opportunities for students to apply and consolidate curriculum planning, assessment techniques, management, discipline skills and curriculum knowledge through lesson and unit preparation and implementation. This unit will promote a variety of interpersonal skills enabling students to reflect critically on experience.

 

EBLO100 Portuguese Language 1                                                                                                        10 cp

This unit will introduce students to the Portuguese language, which is the new language of teaching in East Timor. It is the first unit in a series of four that aims to develop Portuguese language skills that students will eventually use to teach in schools. Students will study the language structure of Portuguese and begin to use introductory vocabulary.

 

EBLO101 Portuguese Language 2                                                                                                        10 cp

This second unit of Portuguese language study will enable students to build on language skills learnt in Portuguese Language 1, Students will learn to read and write in Portuguese and continue to develop their grasp of the spoken language. More complex language structures will be introduced in this unit.

 

EBLO200 Portuguese Language 3                                                                                                        10 cp

This unit will extend students’ proficiency in the Portuguese language. It will provide the students with the language skills required to teach in Portuguese in the classroom. Students will learn how to teach a second language to school students who have no background knowledge of the language. Classroom learning will focus on assisting children tot develop a vocabulary useful in everyday life.

 

EBLO201 Portuguese Language 4                                                                                                        10 cp

This unit is the final Portuguese language unit. It will refine the language skills of the students as well as introduce strategies for teaching Portuguese to children. The unit will include literacy that can be used in the teaching of any language.

 

EBLO300 Language and Literacy 1                                                                                                      10 cp

This unit will introduce students to the systematic study of language: its nature, uses and structures and the way it fits into the development of language in children. Particular emphasis will be placed on theories of language development and the way it relates to meaning between individuals, and between children and their caregivers. It will also consider the processes of reading and writing and the specific texts and genres required in an academic context. Students will develop practical skills for observing, describing and analysing language in particular socio-cultural contexts.

 

EBLO301 Language and Literacy 2                                                                                                      10 cp

This unit will focus on the learning and teaching of literacy in the primary years of schooling, through studying a variety of literary, non-literary, media and multi-modal texts, especially those used by young children. Students will develop their understanding of the nature, use and structure of language and composition of spoken and written language. Students will study practices, which promote children’s composition and comprehension of spoken and written language. It will also teach them to monitor language use and growth.

 

EBMA100 Mathematics Education 1                                                                                                     10 cp

 

This unit will provide students with an introduction to primary mathematics education by discussing and investigating current directions in mathematics education. The unit will focus on theories of learning mathematics, the structure and content of the mathematics curriculum, and effective teaching and assessment approaches.

A child-centred approach to learning and teaching mathematics will be emphasised and students will focus on how assessments can assist teachers to understand children's current mathematical thinking and to plan effective learning experiences. Students will examine the role of manipulatives, technology, and language development in supporting children's understanding of mathematical concepts and processes.

 

EBMA200 Mathematics Education 2                                                                                                     10 cp

 

This unit is designed to provide students with opportunities to consider issues and strategies in planning, implementing and monitoring children's learning experiences. Students will further explore the structure and content of the mathematics curriculum with reference to national and state documents. Opportunities will be provided for students to critically examine learning activities such as problem solving, investigations, teaching approaches, assessment strategies, and issues such as gender, culture, context and language. Underpinning students' explorations in the unit will be theories of children's mathematical learning such as constructivism, and socio-cognitive approaches to learning.

 

EBMU100 Music Education                                                                                                                   10 cp

This unit will facilitate the students’ understanding of the ways in which children perceive, respond to and make music. The unit will assist students to develop basic music knowledge and skills related to teaching and learning in music education. The unit will also examine assumptions held about the nature and value of music in the education of a child and will encourage an understanding of how music fits into personal, social and cultural context within East Timor.
