MUSC608 Master’s Choral Direction A                                                                                                  20 cp

Prerequisite A grade of Distinction or above in MUSC423 Advanced Choral Direction B, or equivalent

Co-requisite MUSC642 Research Project A

Teaching Organisation Weekly individual lesson of one hour, over one semester and Performance Practice Class. The details of the proposed choir must be submitted to the Course Co-ordinator for approval no later than one week before the commencement of the semester, together with proposed rehearsal times and repertoire.

 

An advanced study of the art and techniques of choral rehearsal and direction, including the direction of an approved choir(s) throughout the semester, leading to the presentation of a public choral performance of 60 minutes duration focussed on a particular repertoire or school of composition.

An advanced study in vocal performance, including a public solo recital of 60 minutes duration focussed on a particular repertoire or school of composition, different from that studied in MUSC618: Master’s Practical Study: Vocal A.

MUSC640 Master’s Composition A                                                                                                        20 cp

Prerequisites A grade of Distinction or above in MUSC421 Music Composition B or equivalent

Teaching Organisation Weekly supervision of 60 minutes over one semester and performance workshops as required.

 

An advanced study of compositional technique allowing candidates an opportunity to develop compositions of significant length, complexity and originality. The preparation and presentation of an original composition normally totalling 20-30 minutes. The composition should concentrate on a particular genre, style or theme. It may include contrasted sections or movements, but must display an overall cohesion. Compositions may be scored for solo or ensemble forces, and may include synthetically produced sound.

Teaching Organisation Weekly individual supervision of one hour, over one semester, or equivalent.

 

An advanced study of compositional technique allowing candidates an opportunity to develop compositions of significant length, complexity, and originality but focused on a different style, genre, and scoring from that represented in MUSC640: Master’s Music Composition A.

A detailed background study and commentary on the works presented in the co-requisite unit, displaying a critical understanding of the creative processes involved in either performance or composition.
