A study of 18th–century Classical musical language and late Baroque counterpoint, with a focus on diatonic and simple chromatic harmony, writing techniques, vocal and instrumental scoring and of aural perception and keyboard realisation in the unit content areas.

A continuing study of vocal and musicianship skills appropriate to the role of cantor, including more advanced repertoire appropriate to the role of cantor in leading congregational singing, and skills in teaching new repertoire to a congregation. The repertoire may be chosen to reflect the student’s own denominational tradition.
MUSC246/450 Church Music Review Portfolio 10 cp
Prerequisites Completion of at least one unit in the Diploma in Church Music. [NOTE: The Church Music Review Portfolio should normally be undertaken in the final semester.]
Teaching Organisation Individual supervision of 30 minutes per week over 1 semester or equivalent.
The preparation of a review portfolio that draws together the practical and theoretical components of the other Diploma units, and relates these to the practices of the student's own worshipping community.
