Prerequisites Year 12 Music or equivalent or audition
Teaching Organisation Weekly rehearsals and workshops for at least 2 hours per week over 2 semesters, together with public performances in liturgies and at end-of-semester concerts, as prescribed at the start of each semester, including performances with orchestral or other instrumental accompaniment.
Membership of, and satisfactory participation in, the activities of the Campus Choir for two semesters. The Campus Choir is an auditioned choral ensemble singing a wide range of challenging repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant to large–scale works of the twentieth century. Activities include weekly rehearsals, and at least one major performance each semester, as well as occasional liturgies or performance at University functions.

A generic historical study of psalmody and hymnody, taking into account developments in music and text, and exploring representative resources from a variety of traditions.

Teaching Organisation Weekly 1.5–hour workshop over 2 semesters or equivalent.
An introduction to the art and techniques of choral direction, involving a workshop for two semesters in basic choral training and conducting techniques, sight–singing and accompaniment, using simple hymnody and psalmody and school and community-based repertoire.

Teaching Organisation. Three contact hours per week for 12 weeks or equivalent.
An introduction to skills in the use of music technology, including a study of the basic materials and structure of electronic music, synthesis techniques, the use of the computer for sampling, scoring, sequencing and synthesis, MIDI basics and sequencing techniques.

This unit is an introduction to fundamental music skills and music liturgy, including basic concepts of music, basic materials and structure of music, melody writing and sight–singing methods.

This unit provides students with the opportunity to further develop basic musicianship skills and to develop skills in composition, scoring and analysis.

A foundation study in harpsichord performance and an introductory study of vocal technique and performance for keyboard students who have not passed Grade 3 Voice (AMEB or Trinity College London, or equivalent.

An introduction to the main forms and styles of music in selected non–Western societies – for example, Oceania, Africa, Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, together with an introduction to the aesthetics of music within these countries and the cultural importance of music within these societies.

A study of Baroque musical language, with a focus on diatonic harmony, writing techniques, vocal and instrumental scoring, and on aural perception and keyboard realisation in the unit content areas.
