Financial statements by themselves provide little useful information. They need to be analysed to understand a firm’s current performance and future prospects. In order to analyse financial statements effectively requires the development in skills, not just in mathematical manipulation, but understanding the theories and models that underlie accounting practices. This unit provides the opportunity for students to combine an analysis of accounting theory with financial analysis to arrive at a holistic understanding of the significance of financial statements, and the link between accounting and capital markets.
