EFTSL value of units:   All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

1.          DEFINITIONS

“Thesis” means a substantial and focussed research report of approximately 70,000 words that makes an original and significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge and practice in some aspect of the education profession.

“Dissertation” means a research report of approximately 35,000 words, reporting the pursuit of a sustained research project which primarily makes an original contribution to educational practice.

2.          ADMISSION AS A CANDIDATE FOR THE DEGREE

To gain entry to the course a person must apply for admission and be offered a place in the course. Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

(a)        hold a Master’s degree in Education or equivalent, with an average of Distinction or equivalent;

(b)        have completed at least five years’ relevant work experience; and

(c)        supply two confidential referee reports attesting as to their suitability as a candidate for the degree and their capacity to complete the thesis. At least one must be an academic reference; one may relate to the applicant’s professional experience.

3.          REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF THE DEGREE

3.1        A student may pursue a research pathway or a coursework and research pathway.

3.2        To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings.
