* Students will normally be located at the North Sydney Campus. However, some units may be undertaken at the Strathfield Campus.
EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy that includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement.
Assumed knowledge includes minimum requirements in English and Mathematics as well as in intended teaching area to be studied.
In addition applicants will be required to:
- demonstrate suitability for teaching;
- meet any additional prerequisite requirements imposed by state jurisdictions.
Applicants who do not meet state jurisdictional minimum requirements will be able to undertake approved alternative entry pathways.
International applicants need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent.
New South Wales
- Prerequisites:
- English (Standard) Band 3
- Mathematics (any) Band 3
- Science (any) Band 3
- Assumed Knowledge: A minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English
- Mathematics discipline: Mathematics other than Mathematics General 2
Note: This course is structured to allow applicants to meet the three Band 5 entry requirements within the degree program by including a full year of discipline studies before applicants study how to teach.
Queensland

Victoria
- Prerequisites:
- Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English
- A study score of at least 25 in Mathematics (any)

2. Additional Approvals
All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. All students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
3. Definitions
'Major': 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200-level and at least 20 cp from 300-level. For Bachelor of Science students specified units can count toward major.
“Minor”: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level. For Bachelor of Science students specified units can count toward minor.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the double degree, a student must complete 320 cp consisting of:
- 160 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Units in the Schedule of Unit Offerings, as follows:
- For students completing a minor study in Chemistry, Biology or Environment Science
- 40 cp from Education Studies
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies (20 cp related to first teaching area and 20 cp related to second teaching area)
- 30 cp from Core Curriculum Program Units
- 20 cp from Education Electives
- 30 cp from Professional Experience Unit
- For students completing with a minor study in Mathematics or Psychology
- 40 cp from Education Studies
- 50 cp from Curriculum Studies (30 cp related to first teaching area and 20 cp related to second teaching area)
- 30 cp from Core Curriculum Program Units
- 10 cp from Education Electives
- 30 cp from Professional Experience Unit
- For students completing a minor study in Chemistry, Biology or Environment Science
- 150 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree, consisting of1:
- 10 cp of 100-level Physics unit
- 60 cp from units in the discipline of the first teaching area (Biology, Chemistry or Earth and Environment), comprising 40 cp from advanced units including 20 cp at 300-level
- 40 cp from units in the discipline of the second teaching area (Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Studies, Mathematics or Psychology), including 20 cp from advanced units
- 20 cp of additional units at 100-level chosen from one discipline either Biology, Chemistry or Earth and Environmental Studies
- 20 cp from University Core Curriculum Units.
- 10 cp Core Arts unit.
Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units.
5. Progression within the course
Students will normally need to complete a unit or units at an introductory level (100-level) in an approved sequence before undertaking advanced level units (200-level or 300-level).
In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator and bound by decisions of the School Committee.
