EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
International students need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
1.1 To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have successfully completed:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification with a Grade Point Average (GPA) equivalent to an Australian Catholic University GPA of 4.0; and
- a major study in one teaching area; and
- either a separate minor study in a second teaching area, or a double teaching area;
- which meet the requirements as teaching areas according to the local state/territory registration authority; and
- are teaching areas available within the course.
1.2 For applicants who have successfully completed a Bachelor degree but do not meet subject content requirements or the state/territory requirements, conditional enrolment may, in special circumstances, be approved by the Course Coordinator subject to completion of an additional program of study.
1.3 Advanced standing is available for students who have successfully completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) and meet Faculty Grade Point Average (GPA) and professional experience requirements.
2. Additional Approvals
All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom.
These are:
Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must provide a police check from their home country. All students who have lived in another country for twelve months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
3. Admission Requirements for the Professional Practice specialisation
To be eligible for admission to the Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Professional Practice) specialisation, a student must have completed the first year of the course, which equates to the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 5.0 and a demonstrated strong performance in the professional experience units in Year 1.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
4.1 To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 50 cp from Education Studies;
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies, consisting of either:
- 20 cp in each of two teaching subjects;
or - 40 cp from one teaching subject;
- 20 cp in each of two teaching subjects;
- 40 cp from Core Units - Master of Teaching (Secondary);
- 10 cp from Electives;
and - 20 cp from Year 1 Professional Experience Units.
4.2 Students admitted under admission requirement 1.2 must also complete the agreed program of additional study approved by the Course Coordinator.
5. Requirements for Completion of the Degree with a named Specialisation in Professional Practice
5.1 To qualify for the degree with a named specialisation in Professional Practice, a student must complete 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 50 cp from Education Studies;
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies, consisting of either:
- 20 cp in each of two teaching subjects;
or - 40 cp from one teaching subject;
- 20 cp in each of two teaching subjects;
- 20 cp from Year 1 Professional Experience Units;
- 50 cp from the Core Units - Professional Practice.
5.2 Students admitted under admission requirement 1.2 must also complete the agreed program of additional study approved by the Course Coordinator.
6. Exit Point
A student who has completed the following requirements may exit from the course with the Graduate Diploma in Education:
100 cp from Stage 1 of the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 40 cp from Education Studies;
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies;
- 20 cp from Year 1 Professional Experience Units.
A student who has completed the following requirements may exit from the course with the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies:
80 cp from Stage 1 of the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 40 cp from Education Studies;
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies.
