AN INTRODUCTION TO THE FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES

The Faculty of Health Sciences at Australian Catholic University prepares highly qualified graduates in the areas of Nursing and Exercise Science. Staff of the Faculty are located in five Schools at four campuses: one School of Nursing in New South Wales, one School of Nursing and Midwifery in each of Queensland and Victoria and one School of Exercise Science in each of New South Wales and Victoria.

The Faculty offers courses that have a focus on health and range from undergraduate to postgraduate programs of study. Many postgraduate courses have been developed in conjunction with hospitals and health fitness agencies in order to meet specific needs of the professions and industry. Some postgraduate units are offered in flexible learning mode by online study.

All students have field and clinical experience that is supervised by specially qualified practitioners. Catholic hospitals and other public, private and specialty organisations, as well as schools and various health and fitness centres, are very involved with preparing for and promoting this valued and essential experience.

The goals of the Faculty are closely linked to and emanate from the mission of the University. The areas of achievement by the Faculty include the key areas of teaching and learning, research and scholarship, community engagement in addition to specific objectives regarding internationalisation, quality and revenue generation. It has well-established procedures for evaluating performance and ensuring quality which involve students and representatives of the various statutory registration authorities and professional organisations, as well as recent graduates and employers.

The Faculty has an increasingly vigorous research program. Students who wish to undertake a research degree would have the opportunity to do so in fields of research mutually arranged by candidates and staff who may supervise them.

If you are enrolling in one of our courses for the first time this year I extend a warm welcome to you. The Faculty endeavours to promote a warm, friendly atmosphere in which students can pursue their studies under well-qualified and enthusiastic staff. We aim to enhance the dignity of each individual and I am sure you will find your studies with the Faculty of Health Sciences a rewarding experience.
